Major League Soccer Former England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been named DC United’s head coach.
Rooney was hired by DC United on Tuesday, a few days after he left Derby County, who had been demoted.
“Wayne is a soccer legend and one of the most exciting and dynamic up-and-coming managers in our sport,” said Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan, Co-Chairmen of D.C. United. “He’s already proven in his young coaching career that he knows how to lead a group through adversity.”

Rooney made his debut with DC United in 2018, participating in 48 games and contributing to 23 goals and 15 assists. He was chosen for the MLS Best XI that same year.
The former England international will become DC United’s new manager. DC United has been without a coach since April and is now in last place in the league standings.
