Early on Thursday morning, an emergency landing had to be made at Newark-Liberty International Airport by a United Airlines flight bound for So Paulo, Brazil.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, United Airlines Flight 149 successfully landed following a crew-reported emergency. The aircraft apparently experienced a hydraulics issue.
There were what looked to be sparks pouring off the plane in a video of it. Additionally, it showed what appeared to be airplane debris hitting the ground. An image posted on Twitter appeared to show what appeared to be a small fragment of airplane metal on the ground.
About 90 minutes after taking off from Newark, the Boeing 777-200 completed several circuits over the Atlantic before landing back at the airport at roughly one in the morning.
The airline has been contacted by FOX 5 News for information. When they reply, this story will be updated.
