Tragedy struck in Edo State on Friday, after road accidents at Arue-Uromi and Agbede were said to have produced fifteen fatalities.
According to reports, a Mercedes-Benz had collided with children crossing a road at the Arue-Uromi axis of the State. A conflicting report also suggested that the children were playing football and were unaware of the approaching vehicle, which swerved and hit them in an attempt to avoid a pothole.
The incident which led to the death of two boys and four girls from a single family had reportedly angered local residents who set the Mercedes-Benz ablaze.
Narrating the second accident at Agbede, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Henry Benameisia, had confirmed that a petrol tanker, a Sienna bus and two other vehicles were involved.
According to the Commander, the collision which claimed nine lives was as a result of the Sienna bus speed and the tanker’s break failure.
An unconfirmed number of passengers also sustained injuries during the incident.
