The Nigerian Police Force have reportedly arrested three suspects believed to be connected with an attack on the Church overseen by father of Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In a public statement given by The PRO of the Police Force, Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the suspects have cooperated so far in investigations going on.
After confirming the attack which occurred yesterday, the PRO also stated that the Bomb Department had swept the Church to check for explosives in light of the incident.
It was gathered that the hoodlums had entered the Christian Universal Church International on Saturday night and had detonated several explosives damaging parts of the Church and leaving residents in a state of concern.
Collins Johnbull, The Assistant Chief Security Officer of the Azikiwe Street Security who was present at the scene yesterday explained further.
“On Saturday, 28th day of November, 2020, while I was on my duty post, we observed some movements around 8 pm to 9 pm and we were on the alert, before then we saw some strange faces, about five of them, that entered into the governor’s father’s church and we thought they were church members having their normal evening programme, but we were suspicious of them because of the way they were moving.”
“About five minutes after the boys entered the church, there was an explosion, we heard a banging noise like that of a bomb from the church and we immediately approached the church and saw them (the suspects) jumping out of the church wearing masks and carrying guns and started shooting at my men”, he said.
He also corroborated the arrest of three suspects and stated that a member of his team was injured and is currently receiving treatment. No lives were lost during the incident.
