Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwedor, speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, will run as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for governor of Delta State in the governorship election scheduled for 2023, according to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The Federal High Court’s July 7, 2022 verdict that invalidated his nomination due to certificate fraud and perjury was overturned and set aside by the Apex Court, which affirmed that decision on August 29.
The Speaker was accused of forging certificates and supplying misleading information, both of which Justice Tijani Abubakar said in a lead ruling could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt using originating summons.
The Court agreed that the appellant should have filed a Writ of Summons instead of an Originating Summons, which merely requires affidavit proof, to initiate litigation before the Federal High Court.
According to the arguments made by Oborevwori Sheriff Francis Orohwed’s attorney, Mr. Damian Dodo, Justice Abubakar decided all legal disputes in favor of Orohwed (SAN).
The Supreme Court concluded that David Edevbie’s appeal has no merit in any way, and the matter was consequently dismissed.
