Suicidal Nigerian Soldier Kills, Wounds Colleagues

A suicidal army sergeant named Kabiru Aliyu, who was assigned to Yobe’s 159th battalion Geidam, shot two of his fellow soldiers on Wednesday, killing one and injuring the other.

According to a military source who spoke to The Gazette, Corporal Usman and Lance Corporal Goodluck were shot by Mr. Aliyu, who had injuries to his head and arm and claimed to be intoxicated.

Mr. Usman, who had been shot in the neck, passed away, but Mr. Goodluck, who had been wounded in the chest and arm, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“Sgt Kabiru Aliyu who claimed to be drunk and used his personal rifle to fired CPL Usman on his neck and he died instantly, while Lcpl Good luck received two bullets, on the chest and on his hand,” the military source said.

The insider said that Mr. Aliyu fired on his teammates while wearing his military uniform and a rifle.

The deceased army soldier’s lifeless body was shown in photographs by The Gazette to have a gunshot wound to the neck, and Mr. Goodluck was seen lying on the hospital bed with bloodstains from the gunshot.

However, demands for comments on the incident were not immediately answered by the Nigerian Army spokeswoman, Onyema Nwachukwu.

In the Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, an allegedly intoxicated soldier assigned to Operation Hadin Kai of the North-East Theatre Command killed three civilians and injured a number of others.
