The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 has officially announced a second wave of the virus in Nigeria.
In Thursday’s briefing, the task force had spoken on the spike in number of cases and urged Nigerians to avoid large gatherings while adhering to safety guidelines.
Boss Mustapha –The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) – who is currently in self-isolation after testing positive for the virus recently, was represented by Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.
The SGF highlighted on the beginning of a second wave of infections and warned citizens of a potential risk of loosing out on progress made over nine months in a move to curb the virus.
The PTF Chairman also urged Nigerians to adhere to the Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs), imploring responsible bodies to increase testing and detection rate; so as to reduce loss of lives and tackle positive cases early – which he claimed is the right thing to do in reducing the number of infections.
He also spoke about the impact of the virus on the global health sector due to increased number of cases worldwide, terming the case-spike as a threat to grounds gained over the years.
The NCDC had also announced a record 1,145 confirmed positive cases within the last 24 hours which sees the Nation record over 4000 covid-19 infections within 10 days.
