As part of ongoing efforts to end the ongoing dispute between Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has been named to head Atiku Abubakar’s reconciliation team.
Fintiri, who landed at the Yola International Airport on Saturday through Max Air, revealed his new duty while responding to inquiries on the PDP turmoil.
The governor said that he had been appointed as the committee’s chairman to mediate Atiku’s dispute with Governor Wike.
The governor, who said he appeared to be the best candidate for the job, expressed confidence that, with God’s assistance, he could broker a compromise between Wike and former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
After joking that he was well-positioned to assist mend the gap between Wike and Atiku because of his friendship with both men, he said, “I am an embodiment of both men.”
He promised that the party’s current dilemma would be handled amicably prior to the general elections of 2023.
Following his initial meeting with While, he also revealed that there were promising signals that the committee might be successful in brokering a peace agreement, while recognizing the size of the task at hand.
Fintiri said that if Wike doesn’t support Atiku in the 2023 elections, his significant investment in the party will be for nothing.
He said, “Who are his friends in the APC? Are you telling me those who are now romancing with Wike love him?
“I can assure you that with God, the party will put its house in order before the 2023 elections.
“Even Wike knows he has been by far the biggest investor in the party. Can he now walk away from all of his investment?
“We recognise he loves his people and I can assure you that he will have a fair deal if it comes to that, just to put the crisis behind us.”
