Osun: Adamu Blames APC Failure On Internal Crisis

Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has provided an explanation for the APCโ€™s defeat in the Osun State governorship election last weekend.

Ademola Adeleke, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated incumbent governorย Gboyegaย Oyetola with 403,371 votes, winning the election that took place across the stateโ€™s 30 local government areas last Saturday.

The surprising defeat, according to Adamu, who was interviewed by the BBC Hausa, was brought on by a problem within the party.

He said: โ€œWe lost the race not because we are incapable but because of the crisis within. We had a massive gathering of supporters a few days before the election in Osogbo. No one could ever anticipate that we would lose the election.โ€

The former governor of Nasarawa emphasized that the party had graciously accepted the setback and had drawn important conclusions from it.

He added: โ€œThe Osun defeat doesnโ€™t in any way mean that we will loseย atย the general elections. We only lost one state out of the 22 we have; you see, we are still strong.

โ€œWe will sit and check ourselves. We must ask ourselves what is right and wrong and what needs to be corrected.โ€
