Ondo PDP, APC At Odds Over Akeredolu’s Varsity Award

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has again chastised the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), for receiving an honorary doctorate degree from the Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo on Saturday.

Members of the All Progressives Congress greeted Akerodolu with enthusiasm when he was awarded a Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa) degree. READ ALSO: APC: Youth Coalition Denies Factionalism Reports

Mr. Kennedy Peretei, the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary, criticized Akeredolu’s misrule in Ondo State, saying that it is despicable to get an award from a university when yours is under lock and key, in a statement published in Akure on Sunday.

“It defies common sense and logical reasoning for a governor whose song is a lack of cash to mobilize practically everyone in Ondo State’s political circle to Oyo for an award,” the statement said in part. The list goes on and on.

“Isn’t it ironic that all the state-owned universities where the Governor is a Visitor are under lock and key since the Governor values this prize so highly?” Is he eligible for this prize if Crowther University, like the other universities he oversees, has been closed down?

“A casual glance at the video of the ceremony inspires nothing but sorrow for a man who can shut down the government of Ondo State for the sake of a personal award that benefits no one in the state.”

“With each passing day, the APC government of Rotimi Akeredolu proves that the people’s suffering is being ignored.”

“Otherwise, he should have gone to Oyo peacefully to accept his prize without imposing a load on the state’s resources.” I don’t think I need to say that some of this wasteful spending will eventually be refunded to the Ondo State Treasury.”

“The award is no doubt in honor of Arakunrin Akeredolu’s altruistic contributions to the growth of jurisprudence in Nigeria, promotion of human rights, and his professed dedication to good governance,” Mr. Alex Kelaniya, state APC Spokesperson stated.

“To expect the opposition PDP to relent without last kicks and not embrace any straw in its drowning moment is illusionary,” said Mr. Donald Ojogo, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation.

“Even so, the APC had previously made a statement on the subject. To add to that is to glorify the PDP in an unnecessary way.”
