Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Bola Tinubu‘s supporters against believing that he has endorsed him as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Obasanjo voiced his displeasure over what he claimed was an unauthorized report of the conversation he and Tinubu had during their private meeting.
The former president stated that the utterances emanating from persons purporting to be Bola Tinubu fans are unhelpful in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday.
Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, claimed that the events that took place at the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu were a sign that Tinubu will win in 2023.
Speaking at the Surulere Local Government Area APC gathering in Surulere, Lagos, Gbajabiamila made the claim on Thursday.
The Speaker claimed to have been present at the Abeokuta meeting held behind closed doors on Wednesday and claimed that based on what he heard there, Tinubu’s presidency was almost a certainty.
Obasanjo responded to the assertion by saying that it was false and that the sources of the news were unhelpful to the campaign.
Obasanjo said, “Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good.”
