Muslim-Muslim Ticket Is Threat To National Security: Group

The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu choosing a Muslim as his running mate for the 2023 election is a threat to national security, according to a warning from Nigeria Democracy Defence Watch to President Muhammadu Buhariโ€™s administration.

According to the NDDW, Nigerian Christians will rebel against a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The group requested Mr. Buhari to advise Mr. Tinubu from running for vice president of the APC as a Muslim by involving the countryโ€™s security agencies.

APCโ€™s Muslim/Muslim Ticket in Nigeriaโ€™s 2023 Elections: A Threat to National Stability, Regional Peace, and Security is the title of the groupโ€™s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The letter, which was signed by the groupโ€™s national coordinator and national secretary, Ahmed Adamu, and national secretary Adeniji Adegoke, was made accessible to journalists on Monday in Abuja.

According to the group, the leaders of democratic and securityย institutions,ย as well as other internationalย organizations,ย are copied on the letter.

It stated that a Muslim-Muslim ticket would not only pose a threat to nationalย stability,ย but also have a negative impact on the peace and security of the nation.

A Muslim-Muslim ticket, according to the organisation, would be bad for Nigeriaโ€™s reputation. Millions of Christians, moderate Muslims, and civic organizations, among others, would oppose this, according to the group.

โ€œWe are, therefore, calling on President Buhari to direct the security forces toย do what is neededย by advising Senator Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate and the party on the possible threats this action could pose to security in the country,โ€ the letter stated. โ€œIt is pertinent to note the serious implications of the actionย with regards toย security, especially when one rightly imagines that Christians will feel threatened with a Muslim-Muslim ticket. They may resort to pulpit preachings and mobilisation of opinions across Christendom.โ€

The group emphasized that West Africaโ€™s peace and security are dependent on the assumption of Nigeriaโ€™s political stability in order to warn of the threat the political arrangement could pose to continental security.

โ€œWe, therefore, implore you to use your good offices to weigh in on Tinubu and the APC to thread with caution and refrain from unyielding desire to foist on the nation a Muslim-Muslim ticket,โ€ stated the group.
