Barcelona and Argentine footballer, Lionel Messi, has reportedly lost his two-game ban appeal following his sending-off against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
According to Spanish Football Federation sources, the multi-award winning playmaker had lost his appeal and will miss out on Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Elche CF on Sunday.
Messi, who saw red in the Spanish Super Cup final, after he lashed out at Bilbao’s Asier Villalibre in extra time, will be unavailable till he completes his two-match suspension this weekend.
Although the former World Player of the Year has been sent off while playing for his country in the past, his red card at Seville was the first of 753 appearances in Barcelona colours.
Prior to the dismissed appeal, Messi had served the first of his two-match ban on Thursday in the Copa Del Rey tie against Cornella – a Segunda B division outfit.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of FC Barcelona after extra time.
