Master KG, who took to Twitter to express his delight had edged out Blinding Lights (The Weeknd), Physical (Dua Lipa), Kings & Queens (Ava Max), Tusa (Karol G and Nicki Minaj) and Before You Go (Lewis Capaldi) to bag the International Award.
“We won a big one in France last night, Best International Song of the Year at the NRJ music awards. I keep watching these nominees again and again because I can’t believe it! Big thanks to everyone for making this win possible,” he tweeted.
The South African artiste who lost out to Doja Cat in the “International Breakthrough of the Year” category has also won the hearts of many in the International scene. His recognition also comes after “Jerusalema” was recently announced to be the most searched song on Shazam– an Apple Inc. app used globally.
His award-winning song was initially released on 29 November 2019 with the video being shot a month later. It was also added to the South African artiste’s second album released early this year with the same title.
However, the remix which featured Nomcebo Zikode and Burna Boy has been the top song in European countries such as Belgium, Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland in recent times and has also made its way to the top of US Billboard Charts since its release on 19 June 2020.
