Liverpool Beat City 3-1 To Win Community Shield

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez scored late goals to help Liverpool defeat Manchester City 3-1 on Saturday night to win the Community Shield.

The victory occurred at Leicester’s King Power Stadium before the Sunday England vs. Germany Euro 2022 championship match.

Midway through the first half, Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted Liverpool in completing a deft move while new addition Nunez sat on the bench.

Erling Haaland started in the top spot for City, but he quickly became angry as his teammates fell behind and missed a few good opportunities.

Nunez was brought in the second half and came within inches of scoring on a one-on-one, but Ederson bravely made the save with his face.

Julian Alvarez, another first-timer, entered the game in the second half and, after a rebound was allowed by VAR review, he scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute.

A little more than 10 minutes later, Salah scored from the penalty spot after Ruben Dias touched Nunez’s header in the box.

Nunez gave Liverpool the victory in stoppage time with a diving header from close range, much to the delight of the home crowd.

In the dying moments, Haaland missed a wonderful opportunity to score by smashing a rebound from two yards out off the crossbar.
