The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara State has confirmed at least 10 fatalities in an accident along Idofian-Ilorin axis in Kwara State.
The State’s Sector Commander, Jonathan Owoade, also stated that the accident involved two vehicles with twenty-seven people on board.
According to him, the incident – which occured on Christmas day near the Unilorin Sugar Research Institute – was due to failed overtaking and violation of road speed limits.
“It is another sad incident occurring on the Idofian-Ilorin road axis.
“The fatal accident involved two vehicles – a commercial Nissan Vanette bus and a private Honda Accord car.
“Twenty-seven people were involved, sadly 10 died, nine of them burnt beyond recognition, while 16 persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
“One other person was rescued unhurt,’’ he explained.
He added that the FRSC response team had rushed some of the victims to the Kwara State General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH); while others were taken to Ile Anu Medical Centre at Idofian in Kwara State.
The Sector Commander also announced the deposition of corpses at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
He pleaded with motorists to ensure good working conditions of vehicles and exercise patience while driving; adding that they should respect road speed limits in order to stay alive.
