In place of caretaker premier Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid, Kuwait named the emir’s son Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah as prime minister on Sunday, according to Kuwait News Agency.
In the departing administration, which filed its letter of resignation in April, Sheikh Ahmad served as both the interior minister and deputy prime minister.
He started his career in the police force in his late 60s before moving into the interior ministry. He was named deputy commander of the National Guard in 2020, when his father, Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, assumed leadership.
After his predecessor’s resignation in March, he was appointed interior minister and deputy prime minister.
