Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has been selected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) running mate for Lagos 2023 governorship election.
She won the race for the position of Deputy Governor, defeating the other five candidates.
The incident was confirmed by numerous sources close to the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Abdul Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, and the state party leadership.
According to information obtained, the running companion would be revealed at a forthcoming event.

There were five candidates shortlisted for the role.
They included Ms Akindele; former governorship aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; former Senatorial candidate for Lagos East, Yeye Shobajo, another governorship aspirant, David Kolawole Vaughan known as DAKOVA and Engr. Teslim Balogun.
Since then, a photo of Jandor and Akindele has gone viral, leading some to believe the Nollywood actress has been selected as the contender.
However, there was significant opposition from some party stakeholders, which caused a delay in deciding on the running partner.
The candidate was successful in persuading the party’s stakeholders by pointing to Jenifa’s popularity with young people and the fact that she was from the Lagos East Senatorial District, namely Ikorodu.
The choice of Akindele was confirmed by a source close to the governorship contender, who noted that “it has not been officially announced.”
