On Tuesday afternoon, the NYPD reacted to a near-drowning in the waterways between Rikers Island and the Bronx.
According to the Department of Correction, it occurred around 11:44 a.m.
Inmate allegedly scaled a barrier in the recreation yard of a Department of Correction barge and dove into the river, according to prison officials.
The prisoner was rescued from the river, then taken right away to the hospital. Their condition was not immediately known.
A probe is still being conducted.
