The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), has ranked the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), as the 77th best league in the world for the previous year, 2020.
According to the IFFHS website, the Nigerian league had amassed a total of 165.5 points in the latest rankings but dropped 20 spots from its 57th position in 2019 standings.
The latest rankings also see the Nigerian Professional Football League become the 10th best football league in Africa.
The top 10 leagues in Africa as ranked by IFFHS are; Egypt (15th), Morocco (33rd), Tunisia (36th), South Africa (57th), Congo DR (60th), Zambia (65th), Sudan (69th), Tanzania (71st), Algeria (76th) and Nigeria (77th).
The history and statistical football body also placed the Italian Serie A as the highest ranked league in the world, with the English Premier League, the Brazilian league, La Liga and the German Bundesliga finishing amongst the top 5 globally.
The top 10 football leagues is completed by the Portuguese league in 6th, the French Ligue 1 (7th), the Paraguayan league (8th), the Argentine league (9th) and the Ecuadorian topflight division in 10th spot.
