Gunmen Attack Yusuf Lasun’s House In Osun

On Monday morning, gunmen broke into the residence of Yusuf Lasun, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Osun State.

The attack took place in Ilobu in the local government of Irepodun at around one in the morning.

In the incident, no one was wounded.

After taking part in a governorship discussion in Osogbo, Mr. Lasun, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, was attacked at home.

Mr. Lasun competed in the discussion against the APC’s Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, the PDP’s Ademola Adeleke, the SDP’s Oyegoke Omigbodun, and the Accord Party’s Akin Ogunbiyi.

He advocated for the creation of state police and blamed the Constitution for the lack of security in the state and throughout Nigeria.

Osun will hold its governorship election on July 16.

“I think this is happening because of the debate that took place yesterday, because immediately after that exercise, the narrative has started changing in Osun,” Bello Saheed, a relative of Mr Lasun, told PREMIUM TIMES on the Monday morning attack.

“This is not the first time this is happening. He was attacked some times ago, his office was also attacked a few months back but even at that, we are not perturbed because the Osun people understood what is happening better.”

According to Mr. Saheed, the shooters fired repeatedly from outside the home, smashing the windows.

He claimed that the State Security Service and police are working to apprehend the attackers.

The state’s police spokesman, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the assault on Mr. Lasun’s home.

“It is true. But we thank God that nobody was injured.”
