As a result of his apparent helplessness, Mohammed Matawalle, the governor of Zamfara State, has turned to self-help, ordering the state’s citizens—particularly farmers—to buy guns so they can protect themselves from roving terrorists and robbers.
To protect themselves from armed criminals, Matawalle commanded the state’s commissioner of police to grant licenses to people who are willing and able to possess arms.

The usage of motorbikes in the districts of Mada, Wonaka, and Ruwan Bore, as well as Yandoto emirate in the state’s Gusau and Tsafe local government regions, was prohibited by the governor, who also approved the immediate closure of all markets and several gas stations. He gave the order to security personnel to shoot anyone breaking the prohibition on sight.
