Newly elected acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adebola Ekanola has yesterday secured the approval of The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan.
Prof. Ekanola’s appointment comes after an election was held at the University’s International Conference Centre in Ibadan and was presided over by Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun who is the Provost, College of Medicine.
His election was confirmed at a special Senate meeting held according to the National Universities Commission (NUC) directive released last week.
Prof. Ekanola who beat his other candidates by a large margin secured 275 votes while Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Innovation, and Partnerships, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo had 13 votes; Prof. Adigun Agbaje had 15 votes; Prof. Ayo Oluleye had 80 vote and Prof. Gbemisola Oke, bagged 14 votes in the election.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Ekanola had served as the the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), and as the Director, Office of International Programmes (OIP) and also the Dean, Faculty of Arts.
His approval also comes after he was recommended by the University’s Senate to serve as the acting Vice Chancellor.
Mr. Olatunji Oladejo— the University’s Director of Public Communication, also confirmed the appointment in a statement released yesterday.
“It is confirmed that Prof. Adebola Ekanola has been appointed as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan on the recommendation of the Senate of the University,” he said.
The acting Vice Chancellor was also presented with a certificate by the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council following his appointment.
