More than 40 rice farmers have been confirmed dead after suspected Boko Haram members laid siege on a community in Borno State on Saturday.
According to reports, the farmers were said to have been attacked while working at Garin Kwashebe. Many were also confirmed injured in the gruesome attack.
Although, exact figures of casualties are yet to be fully determined, it is pertinent to state that eye witness reports have confirmed more than 40 farmers were killed.
The farmers were reportedly beheaded after being rounded up, according to a source.
The President, Muhammadu Buhari also condemned the killings through a statement released by Garba Shehu, his spokesman.
“I condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno State. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in the time of grief. May their souls rest In peace,” he said.
The deceased were buried this morning in their local community with Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum in attendance.
