London based club – Chelsea FC, will face Manchester City; another side from the Queen’s country in the final match of the UEFA Champions League.
The Blues who finished off a convincing two-legged tie against Real Madrid with a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge will contest for the big prize on May 29 at Istanbul, Turkey.
Chelsea took the lead in the first half through Timo Werner’s close range header before rapping up a convincing performance through Mason Mount’s second half goal; and qualifying for their first UCL final since 2012.
Their qualification makes it the eighth time a UCL final will be contested by two clubs from the same country, and the third time between two English sides.
City secured their spot in the final after beating Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 on aggregate, with Riyad Mahrez starring in both legs.
Meanwhile, Chelsea gear up to face City this weekend in an English Premier League fixture, which could see the latter clinch their second EPL trophy in three years with a victory. It will also be a fifth league title for Guardiola’s boys.
Furthermore, Thursdays Europa League Semi final fixtures could also see two English clubs book spots in the final if Manchester United replicate their first leg performance against Roma, and Arsenal defeat Villarreal, leveraging on their away goal.
