Bandits Kill Villagers In Attack On Bauchi Community

Three people were killed in a new attack by unidentified gunmen at Num village in Tafawa Balewa local government area, according to the Bauchi police command.

SP Ahmed Wakil, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the attack on Thursday, saying two more villagers were injured.

The latest incident came just 24 hours after bandits killed three people and injured one in Yadagundume village in Ningi LGA.

On April 9, the bandits assaulted the Num village, killing three locals, according to Mr Wakil. Samaila Bello, Kefas Sarki, and Paulina Alhamdu are among the victims, according to him.

“We received (a) distress call on May 9, 2022 at about 21:30 hours that some hoodlums armed with AK-47 rifles stormed Num area of Sara village in Tafawa Balewa LGA of the state,” said the police officer. “They opened fire on members of the community causing the death of three persons while two others, Gode Bulus and Zakka Mayo, were injured.”

The police spokesman added that “on intensive effort, the DPO, Tafawa Balewa Division and his team rushed to the scene of the crime where they rescued the two victims and referred them to the General Hospital Tafawa Balewa.”

Mr Wakil also claimed that police commissioner Umar Sanda had asked the Toro area commander to step up efforts to apprehend the criminals.

The police commissioner advised residents to remain calm and report suspicious persons and movements in their areas to security authorities while underlining the police’s commitment to protect lives and property.

He said, “The force will not be deterred from dealing with all criminal elements that try to test its capacity.”
