Atiku Has Heeded My Advice On Wike, Says Ortom

On Monday, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom declared that PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has accepted the counsel offered to him on his dispute with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.

Atiku has received harsh criticism from Ortom for not selecting Wike as his running mate, despite the committee’s suggestion.

Additionally, he criticized Atiku for not contacting Wike and other resentful party members after selecting Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as his running partner.

However, Atiku criticized Ortom last week for asserting that Wike was the PDP committee’s choice for vice president.

He asserted that the committee assembled at his request proposed Wike, Okowa, and Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel as candidates, but he ultimately chose Okowa.

When asked by reporters at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Monday, Ortom responded that he did not want to be drawn into a confrontation with Atiku.

He claimed that Atiku had taken his advice to heart and was currently meeting with Wike.

Ortom said, “I don’t want to answer questions on that again. My presidential candidate has acceded to my advice. I wouldn’t want to contradict my presidential candidate.

“Whatever happens, rightly or wrongly, I accept it. We’re the same family; we will find a way of resolving our matter.”

In the meantime, there were signs on Monday that the conflict between Wike and Atiku was far from resolved as Wike’s party followers once more criticized Atiku for not choosing him.

Desmond Akawor, the PDP’s Rivers State Chairman, claimed that while the party’s presidential candidate had a right to express his views, he was unfair to Wike.
