Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has been fired as a result of a string of dismal Premier League performances.
90 minutes after Aston Villa’s humiliating 3-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage last night, Gerrard was dismissed.
Villa’s miserable start to the season, which has left the team hovering just one spot above the Premier League relegation zone, came at Gerrard’s expense.
With less than a year on the job, the 42-year-old hasn’t been able to succeed in his first managerial position in English football.
“We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future,” a Villa spokesman said.
Who will be in control of Villa when they play Brentford on Sunday remains unknown. They have thought of a bold move for Mauricio Pochettino and will seek to make a quick appointment.
It is unknown if the former manager of Tottenham, who is currently jobless having been fired by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the previous campaign, would be willing to participate in a relegation struggle.
