Armed Men Kill 4 Police Officers In Imo Station Attack

Four policemen were killed in a rampage by gunmen at the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in Imo State’s Oguta Local Government Area.

A portion of the divisional property, including vehicles, was also destroyed by the gunmen who assaulted the police station on Friday night.

Two male and two female cops were among those killed; their remains were burned.

One of the dead officers had only been on the force for two weeks, a source said.

The Divisional Police Officer’s vehicle was one of the burned-out automobiles.

On the same evening, the gunmen also broke into the home of a local known only as Ejike, shot him and his wife, and then fled. Ejike passed away instantly.

Our correspondent learned that the shooters arrived at the scene in a tipper and two sedan cars around 10 p.m.

Residents reported hearing gunshots but were too afraid to leave their homes.

During the time that the state commissioner of police, Muhammed Berde, was en route to the scene, some police officers who had been recruited from outside the division had assumed control of the area, a police source informed our correspondent.

CSP Mike Abattam, the state’s police public relations officer, has not yet commented on the incident because calls made to him were not connected.
