Amazon.com Inc. are reportedly closing in on a deal to outrightly own the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie studio.
Based on exclusive information provided, the e-commerce giants will agree a deal sooner than later, and would usher in the studio’s priced catalogs including James Bond, Pink Panther, RoboCop and Rocky franchises, and the movie ‘The Silence of the Lambs’.
Although the MGM–Amazon deal has been kept under wraps for a while, The Wall Street Journal reports that an agreement could be reached this week; ending the hedge fund ownership of the film outlet and also Anchorage Capital Group.
Amazon will pay a fee estimated at $9 billion if agreements are reached with timing factor being considered.
The MGM deal will also mean that Amazon could add to its prior hefty acquisitions such as the purchase of Whole Foods in 2017 for $13.7 billion and the shelling of approximately $11 billion on content to stream its video and music services in 2020; not forgetting the deal to pay about $1 billion a year on NFL rights.
